Hello Factory

We have plugged the MMSI number into our radio on the C24 and have noted that the radio does not receive the GPS signal, hence the emergency button is not very useful.

Is this a configuration issue or a wiring issue?

Are the radio and GPS intended to be connected when the boat exits the factory?

Thanks
Sean

This may or may not be the issue, but if I don't have my chart plotter on, the radio does not get the gps coordinates and an alarm goes off after about 10 mins or so. To keep my radio on I have to keep my chart plotter on. There may be a way to override this, but I don't know it.

Check the baud rate setting on your plotter. Likely you want the big number if I remember correctly, 38400?.

I assume you checked your connections? Go to the list on your Chartplotter that shows all connected items. If the VHF does not show up you have a connection issue.

Sean,

I took delivery of my C24 a few months ago and it was not connected. I had to locate the NMEA 0183 wires on the chart plotter and vhf and connect them. I called Garmin and they told me which colors to use.

Thanks, that seems to be the same issue. I don't suppose you happen to remember which wires to connect?

Hello Sean,

If you have the Garmin VHF 200 model, it is NMEA 2000 compliant. You should be able to tap in to the N2K backbone which is already in your boat and connect it with one clean cable rather than messing with those tiny, fiddly, itty-bitty 0183 wires.

Hello,

On the Ranger 23 and Cutwater 24 we are not hooking the VHF to the plotter. This would be done at the dealer level but is certainly something most could easily do. I have tried to get the factory to do this but not interested in doing the hardwire connections on the NMEA 0183 side.

Thank you,

Sean,

I'm sorry but I can't tell you which wires. I have it written down in the boat but it is having some other warranty issues fixed at the dealer tight now. Garmin was very helpful and even looked up the correct wires on the radio that isn't even one of their products.

Hey y'all,
Dave above kindly pointed me to this thread that I missed earlier. I have a C24 that came with the SH 1650, which as best I can tell requires the dang little 0183 wires. Can someone who has done this on this boat get me pointed in the right direction?

For instance, do the wires already come into the panel in the head somewhere, or do I need to start pulling the radio/paneling to put them down a conduit from the set or what? Also, any pointers as to coloring and routing guidance would be great.

I'm relatively familiar with how this stuff works but am mostly trying to avoid starting to take a bunch of things apart without something resembling a plan going in.

Much appreciated,
Garrick

Hello - I know this is an old thread but I just put the MMSI into my Standard Horizon VHF and now its has the 10 min beep feature. Anyways -I just got my 2017 Cutwater 242 and I want to connect it into the chart plotter (Garmin 7610xsv). I am wiling to do the NEMA 0183 if it just takes wires. Does anyone have a link to the instructions or a place in the Tacoma WA area that can do it?
