Hi All:
Just posted pictures in my album of the custom "fastback" style cockpit cover that was made for "Gilgamesh". I originally saw this style on an older post here on Tugnuts and contacted King Canvas assuming they originally made the cover, as I was told it was an option from the factory at one point in time. King can still make the cover from the pattern they maintain, however you would locally have to install all of the fastening hardware and I did not want to deal with that.
I took the picture of the cover to our local canvas shop [we are fortunate to have a company based out of our marina where Gilgamesh is docked] and he was able to make the cover and do the install. Really happy with how the finished product turned out.
I'm not a big fan of shrink wrapping a boat if it can be avoided and since we keep Gilgamesh in the water year-round, I wanted something that provided protection throughout the year and was easy to put on/take off. Specifically had the bungee style mounts used wherever possible, so the only snaps run along the side of the pilot house. The cover utilizes the existing rail that the bimini attaches to along the top of the pilot house, so it makes for a good seal. We have one support pole that is used in the middle. I can now keep the seat cushions in the cockpit, as previously we would move them into the pilot house after each outing so they were not exposed to the weather. With this setup, you just fold the bimini down and install the cover, so not too much of an effort needed. I should also get more life out of the bimini since it won't be taking the brunt of the weather anymore.
