Hi Could someone please tell me the first year the ranger 21 ec came out ,it would help with searching for one ,also when they started with the bow thruster
Thanks bob

Bob, The 2006 was the first model year of the EC. I purchased a 2006 21'tug from the Ranger factory in Dec.2005 and it was classed a 2006 on the paperwork and was supposedly the last standard 21' built before the 21'EC. Therefore not all 2006 tugs were EC's' I was told that they had two standards on the factory floor and after that all would be EC's. I was also told that the bow thruster was an available option on all EC's.
Hope this answers your questions and will help you find the tug you are looking for. On a 2006 you will need to ask EC or not.
Ron

Thanks Ron for the information . It will save me time for sure .

I believe the answer to the Bow Thruster question is late 2008 on the early 2009 models .
Marc

Marc is correct. I have an 08 R21-EC built in late 2007 and it does not have the bow thruster.

Is a bow thruster now standard on all EC's. I was told that it could be ordered as an option earlier than that.
Ron

I believe they are now standard with the R21-EC.

Hi, I purchased a 21 EC, hull FMLT115B606, in July 2006 [a C Ranger Tug] from a dealer on the Hudson River in Upstate New York. The boat had an installed thruster as an option at the time of purchase. Good luck with your search.

Murdock, Thanks for afirming that a thruster was an option on early EC's. Another interesting point that I had about forgotten was that the C Ranger was used during a short period that Ranger and C-Dory tried a joint venture on marketing the boats. It did not last but a few months. In fact a number of tug owners joined the C-Brats group and got albumns etc.. Both are great boats and having owned both, I can say they are different but fill needs that a boat owner can have under different circumstances. You can't go wrong with either.
Ron

I think I saw thrusters on hulls at the C Ranger factory in Fall of 2006. My boat had the serial assigned in Jan 06 and is hull number 10 by the serial number assigned to it. Boat was delivered to EQ Marine in the middle of the year and I bought it used with 48 hours in December. I don't want to screw up someones sale but they were making changes back then and newer boats have some nice changes. IE the radio has been moved to a better spot where the cabinet is more secure, wipers are no longer manual operated and have a full sweep. Newer boats have the problem burping of the fuel fixed and would be a more major job to change mine so I have a rag around the overflow to keep the sloshed diesel in one spot.
Newer boats have the access to the rear locker changed. Real early boats had a very small back window about the size of a brass port hole. Ranger tugs listens to owners and makes revisions so you have balance price against revisions in the search of a used boat. All boats have their place and get the one you like and a non EC model could be a good fit as well.
Good luck in your search, that's the fun of it. Bob Heselberg
