We are about to commit to ordering a new R23, but we were wondering what kind of experience others may have had in negotiating the price. Is it unreasonable to expect to not have to pay the 'sticker' price? The dealer has told us that they recently sold 18 Rangers in the span of about a month, four of which were R23s. It seems with that much demand we will be unlikely to ask for much of a price concession. Thanks for your comments.

Hi
My suggestion is if possible work with the factory team and be up front about what you can do .
I think they’re a great team that will work with you . They want boats on the water.
Keep in mind that they come in at a good price point list and they’re made locally for local boaters by people with a long history on NW waters on and around boats and boaters
Enjoy the process

OP- Being you are in Virginia, I don't think you will be able to work with the factory team, it would be nice if you could. Demand for the 23's is high, they can't make them fast enough, so I don't think you will be able to get much off list price, especially if you are going to order a boat. But there is some wiggle room for the dealer. I got a small discount off the price on my 27OB, also small discounts on some options/upgrades. The 27 OB is as much in demand as the 23.
Should you expect much, if any, discount, I don't think so, but you should certainly try to see what you can get. Especially if they have a boat in stock they don't want to carry over the winter.
Good luck.

If you're not in too much of a hurry, you could wait for the next boat show in your area and attend that in the hopes there are some reasonable 'boat show' discounts. Beyond this I doubt there's any real significant wiggle room in the sticker price for the R-23. For the R-27/OB model you do have maybe until end of 2017 to get the special 'new boat/model' pricing before it is raised by as much as $15K come 2018. I believe this pricing strategy was used for the R-23 in 2016 and come 2017 the sticker price went up.

Good luck.... and if money is tight you can alway consider the R-23 used market to get your discounts.

ChincoBay,
I dropped the deposit on a R-23 at Pocket-Yachts the day before the start of the Annapolis Boat Show. I asked if there was a "Show Special Price". What I got was a free bottom painting $2450, and Power Inverter $1620. Wasn't much, but made me feel good.

I'm a little late to this party, but I'm surprised at all the responses indicating that there are essentially no discounts on the R23 and R27OB when I believe the RT website mentions special factory direct/promotional pricing. I live on the east coat, but it has been my sense that the factory discount would also go to the dealer who could pass the savings on to the buyer. When I have purchased popular boat models in the past, the dealer has been willing to sell the boat at discount, albeit the boat was an in-stock boat and it was winter time.

I realize that if there is high demand for a product, including boats like the R23 and R27OB, there is no need for the manufacturer to discount their product, but with few exceptions most people buying something as expensive as a boat like these RT's, there is an expectation that some discount will be available.

If you can put off purchasing either of these two boats for a year or so, there may be some pre-owned boats on the market and RT as well as the dealers may be more willing to offer larger discounts on these boats. For new boats manufactured at that time, another advantage could be that RT may have made some useful updates to these boats based on issues found and user suggestions.

Lastly, I would be interested to know what kind of discounts are available on the other RT models that have been on the market for a number of years.

I see you are on Cape Cod. Give Peter a call at Winter Island http://www.wiyy.net, he is the RT dealer for our area. He can let you know about available discounts, also the Boston Boat Show is in Feb and they always have special show pricing.

Right now there are no factory incentives on the R23 and the price is expected to go up on this model for the 2019 model year. If you want to be at current pricing it would be good to get the order in sooner than later. Besides the price increase, it is likely that some that order after the winter time might not be in a new boat until next winter. The R27 is introduced at special intro pricing which will be increasing in January. All orders prior to the end of year on this model will be at current internet listed pricing.

The big issue that we are seeing is our inventory levels are cut nearly in half right now comparing to where we were last year. We can only build a certain number of boats each year and I know that some dealers have already sold out of the boats they are getting for all of next year. Certainly a good position to be in but also a tough one to be in.

The original poster of this is in Virginia so most likely working with our dealer in Maryland. I see another one in Falmouth which would certainly be Peter at Winter Island. If we can be of any assistance and help with your order, don't hesitate to reach out.

We do believe it is important to publish our pricing to be as transparent as possible. We believe we build the boats with more standard features than anyone in the industry and also believe that our pricing is the best bang for your buck in the industry.

If you have specific questions regarding pricing or remaining inventory, I would be happy to discuss with you by phone.

Best regards,
