Good Evening, Folks. My lovely bride of 27 years, today, spent a great day out on the water in Newport Harbor in fabulous Orange County, CA. The Ranger Tugs are invading the place, I tell ya. We saw two. There was the Red 29' "Sips Ahoy" over in the south east section of the harbor near the harbor entrance and a brand new Blue 29 "Our Idea", in the Back Bay. We paused briefly to talk to the new owners of Our Idea. One of the salespeople from Farallon Boats was there and everyone was engrossed. Congrats to both sets of owners. Hopefully, they will show up here soon.

I found another Ranger Tug in Newport today. It is a red 27 at the slip for Farallone Boats by the Rusty Pelican. That makes three.

I am hoping to find out if that R-27 will be in the Newport Boat Show in April. Sure would like to look her over.

Hi Kamalani. You should call Patty at Farallone in Alameda. (510) 523-6730. She is the owner of the company. She should know. The 27 currently at the Farallone dock is the even the same color scheme as your beautiful 21. The listed price as she sits at the dock is 200k and change. It has many options including generator, AC, camper back enclosure, trailer, etc.

BTW, not to hijack my own thread, but how well does your 21 handle the SoCal coastal waters?

HI Alex. Never mind answering the SoCal waters ride question. I took a look back in your postings. You have answered it well many times already.

We have been dodging wind and rain for the past few days. The Porta-Bote is cool, but it ain't no Ranger Tug!

Sam - I just received a very kind email from Sheila, Farralone's sales rep in the Newport Beach location. She stated that they would have the R-27 and a R-29 in the show for sure, and they were looking into a R-25 as well. Sounds like it will be well worth the trip from Bakersfield to look 'em over.

Just to clarify my feelings about the R-21 in California coastal waters, it's important to keep in mind that we were operating out of the harbor in Ventura. The Santa Barbara Channel is known for being windy and rough, more so than the waters further south, say from Santa Monica Bay on down to San Diego. Without a trailer, we were faced with more uncomfortable days than not, but occasionally were treated to a flat and balmy run out to the islands and back. Ultimately, we opted to purchase the trailer, and opened up a lot more cruising areas to enjoy.

Thanks for dropping by our new Ranger Our Idea! We are very excited and looking forward to our first trip to Catalina soon! We have been long term boaters and recently down sized from a 49 foot boat to the luxury and travel-ability of a Ranger 29. I will be retiring this year and we plan to explore as many beautiful coastal areas as possible! The folks at Farallone yachts and at the Ranger factory have been awesome and I really feel as though we have been treated like royalty by Sheila, Patty, Jeff and Andrew. My wife and I love tug nuts and have used many of the comments read here to finalize our decision to buy a Ranger Tug. Plan on sharing stories as we begin our adventure!

Hi Alex and Steve. Alex, I am glad that Sheila got you the info that you need. The three different sized boats may be just what you need to decide which of the three you need  Nothing like the side by side by side comparo to show the strengths and weaknesses.

Thanks for the clarification on the R-21. I really think that one would work well for my plan. It would be between that and a C-Dory 16-19-22. There are pros and cons to all four of those boats. I am still not sure how my boat selection will all shake out. Trailability and the ability to transport the boat, along w/ all of my other toys to the toy spots will be the challenge w/ my plan. (RV, Motorcycles, Boat, all in a legal towable, affordable package)

Steve, you have made a fabulous choice. I envy you as you embark on this new course. I will be very interested in following your and Nel's (I hope that I remembered correctly) adventures in the SoCal area.

Exciting stuff.
