Those of you who are on facebook, help Ranger Tugs claim their rightful name. Go to their new page and hit "like" - when they reach 25, they'll be able to claim the name for their page.

Ranger Tugs on facebook

Tell a friend!

Cheers,

Bruce

We're there! I was #30!

#35. We are on our way!

#37, the list is growing....

OK. We have over 1,200 registered Tugnuts. And there are a whole lot more welcome guests browsing these topics.

But, there are only 71 folks on facebook who "like" the Ranger Tugs page.

Are you on facebook? Let's go for 100!

I hope you reach your target, although I'm not sure of the benefit, but I'm afraid I can't help you because I'll never have a Facebook or any similar account.

Thanks. I totally understand GulfSailor. Absolutely an individual choice.

I've come, reluctantly and cautiously, to appreciate the opportunity to keep up with many people who have touched my life. I've been diligent about asserting my privacy settings and, net net, have found it adds value to my life.

Sample of one.

The numbers are compelling. There are 500,000,000 others who have also opted in, which presents a promising potential for me, and other friends of Ranger Tugs, to easily share our interest, experience, and passion for these boats with friends, of friends, of friends. The benefit, to me, is I might someday meet them, face to face, bumper to bumper, on the water.

I'm glad we're already members of Tugnuts, and hope to someday cruise in the same waters.

Cheers,

Bruce

We also came to Facebook reluctantly. We have renewed friendships that were from over 50 years ago. Many we had lost contact over the years. We use it as a communication system for our neighborhood. We see what local boaters and others are doing in our area. Last year we were at a meeting at our local yacht club on a Saturday morning. An Osprey had caught a talon at the top of a sailboat mast. He was not able to free himself and probably would have died a slow horrible death. Being friends with a local conservationist and the owner of the Sea life Center here in Port Isabel, I sent her a message on Facebook, as her cell phone was not listed. Someone called her, she called me and between us we got someone to climb the mast and free the Osprey. He was taken to vet that works at the Gladys Porter Zoo and given a few days R and R before being released back in the area. Some pictures of the rescue are here https://picasaweb.google.com/116680259858084694866/OspreyRescuePublish
His rescue may not have happened without Facebook communication.

We use Facebook, are there things we do not like about it? Yes. But for us the good outweighs the negatives. We are selective about who we friend and how much really personal information is public. Facebook is not for everyone, and I respect that, but for us it is another resource that we enjoy.

I realize that my view is a minority one, and I certainly wouldn't argue against anyone else using it, but for me the potential disadvantages outweigh any benefit it might provide me as an additional means of communication.

I wish the new Ranger Tugs Facebook Page well, but trust that if something really important gets posted there it will end up being repeated here too.

My concern about a facebook page is that it will start to cut into information on this site, and I don't want to check 2 places for Ranger info, especially one that is full of "social" tweets

That has definitely been my experience on other forums.
However, it seems that it's rare for anything of importance to be lost, and it's mainly 'fluff' that doesn't make it back to the forum, although I suppose that could sometimes be important.

Be very careful what you place on Facebook. It's a slippery slope to numerous unwanted solicitations IMO and experience.

I belong to a ton of forums and people seem to think they can 'Friend' you at will. This is bothersome at best and difficult to fend off.

I ended up pulling away from Facebook because of all of its annoyances.

I'm happy to bump the counter for Ranger Tugs. 🙂
