Our ranger 27 2013 rum tum tugger has the garmin hd 18 radar. Working normally for month of july while in Anacortes area. While waiting to be shipped from Washington to Georgia the boat apparently sat outside without shrink-wrap and water got by the O ring for the network plug.

Radar was not working upon arriving in Ga. Technician guy found two things One the power connector had a broken O ring. Also the strain plastic bar at bottom of radar that compresses the cables was missing making a possible strain on network cable. Network Cable connections corroded and had to be replaced. Garmin repaired and sent back to me,

I have 3 bills totaling $ 346.00 for shipment to Garmin and 3 hrs work on radar to replace cable ends and troubleshoot unit.
I have read that several boats have had this same problem which tends to make me wonder that its a installation problem. My Technician guy has never had one fail that he has installed being in the business for near 30 years.

I have pictures of radar connectors and can send same to you if you request.

Please respond.

Anytime a warranty issue may arise, it should be brought to our attention or your dealers attention before anything is done to avoid any confusion. Garmin is very good about standing behind their product but it needs to be on their terms. Please send me the correspondence directly and I will work with Garmin to make this reasonable for all parties involved.

Best regards,

Andrew Custis
