I have an affection for quality vintage compasses. I have a 5" Danforth-White, Constellation Express at the helm of my R21 Classic that I reconditioned and adore. Shielding it from the magnets of the Simrad auto-pilot and adjusting it within the confines of the R21 was no simple task, but it is as reliable as the setting sun. I could never part with it. I don't make a habit of hocking wares on this site. We have a great group of dealers that make their living supporting our tug addictions and providing for their families. But if something unusual comes up, I'm posting it. To a loving tug owner who will admire it as much as I do, the 1st., C457 4" Danforth Constellation Express ever to be produced and sold. Serial No. 4002. Serial No. 4001 was never sold, it was kept "In house" as part of the Danforth Collection. I have the original accompanying laminated Danforth Company letter from the Plant Superintendent, Robert L. Wilbur addressed to the first/original purchaser in Ft. Lauderdale, FL dated April 14, 1977. This compass was never installed, was kept in a UV protected and temperature controlled environment. It has the original factory seals, the fluid is gin clear and not a screw on it's bezel has been touched since is was assembled in the factory in 1977. It is mint in every way, period. Although it is a prime candidate for a life as a collector's piece, it is my sincerest hope that someone mounts it on a Ranger Tug and absolutely enjoys the heck out of it. $450. You may pick up in Atlanta, if you live in FL or GA, I may be able to deliver if you can wait a few weeks and save you postage. Sorry, I have not quite figured out how to post pics, but if you have an interest, send a PM and I will email you a pics of the compass and letter.
