Raritan Day Head

We have a Raritan day head on our R31CB and I have noticed that the small amount of water that lays in the bowl before it is flushed seems to settle down the drain, leaving it dry. I don't think this is normal and believe this may be the cause of odors backing up the drain.

Should there be a small amount of water remaining in the bowl?
If so, any ideas how to correct the issue?

It is the same in our head and I wondered the same. I called Raitan and they said it is normal it is not designed to hold water in the bowl. Once we put a charcoal filter on the vent the smells went away.

The First Mate has insisted the charcoal filter must be installed as part of the winter maintenance.
Did you get the big orange filter?

I built our vent filter per the link below as many others have done here on Tugnuts.
