Our 25' Ranger Tug has been occupied by some unwelcome guests recently. There may only be one rat aboard, but that is one rat too many. We have discs on the mooring lines, but think the entrance point might be under the gunnel in the cockpit. We wonder if any one else has had this problem, and how they addressed it. Traps with peanut butter go ignored so far. Thanks for any help!

Go ashore and go to the local farm elevator - the place with those big cylinders that stand up on end.
Might have to drive inland a bit to find one. The store there will have bait for rats and mice.
Tell the nice person at the counter what your problem is.

If you cannot make it to the grain areas, a product called Decon worked for us at the farm. It makes the critters thirsty and they leave the boat to find water and die. If you do not have water available for them on the boat, they will not die on the boat which is a good thing. Because if they die on the boat they will die in a very inaccessible place and the smell will let you know where. So be sure that your water is secured before using the Decon bait.

Another route is to go to Home Depot and buy glue boards. Place them in locations where you have seen them travel through. Check regularly and pretty soon you will have one glued down rat........

The glue boards are carried on the same aisle as all other pesticides and mouse traps.
