Iv'e noticed on videos of the ranger diesels of all types that the exhaust and raw water outlet on the boat has a kind of pulsing thing going on. The R21 exhaust and raw water exit on my new old boat has a small continual stream of water coming out, then there seems to be a momentary gush and then small stream and then momentary gush. I'm assuming that is normal because I've seen it on other videos of EC's, but my natural curiosity makes me wonder why there isn't a continual linear flow.

Hello Harry,

It is normal for the water expelled with the exhaust to "belch" out rather than a smooth continuous stream since it must first pass through the waterlock muffler. The muffler, along with varying exhaust pressures which drives out the water, cause the "regularly irregular" flow.

Ahaaa! Belch, that is the right description.

Thanks.

If you have any doubts about the volume of water being expelled you can pull the water pump impeller and take a look at it. It's an easy job and if it hasn't been done lately it's good PM.
