Help! I apologize for starting a new thread on something that's been discussed... The Raw Water Intake gremlins are out to get me! I had a diver clean the bottom about a month ago... It seems to be clogged again! Had to shut the engine down when the alarm went off. It's being towed to the yard this morning to be short hauled and inspected. Is it just me?
I'm hoping there's been no damage to the engine. Money, money. It's times like this that I wish I had taken up golf, rather than boating.... Well, not really.

Get out the owners manual. Maybe the impeller is shot? There should be a troubleshooting guide or a tech support number? Good luck and let us know.

If you have not had the boat hauled yet I'd suggest you close the sea strainer lever then take the sea strainer cap off. After that open the sea strainer lever and see if water comes thru the sea strainer housing into the boat hull. If so then you most likely have an impeller that needs replaced and this repair would not require the short haul and save you some $$$. If on the other hand there is no water flow then you could have a piece of plastic sucked up into the thru hull which in turn may require the short haul or someone to dive under the boat for a visual inspection. Hope this helps, keep us posted on the outcome,

Not sure on the 25, but on my 21 I put an extra length of hose onto the winterizing tee near the strainer and blew into it. The bubbles out of the intake and lack of resistance suggested an open intake and need for an impeller. Pretty cheap.

I have an R25sc and the raw water intake has been plugged with unknown stuff at least twice. Once it cleared itself after an engine temp alarm and once that caused damage to the impeller also after a temp alarm. Possible solutions-

Ask Richard Becker, parts at Ranger, about hooking up your fresh water as a source of water for your wash down. You could them use wash down to reverse flow throw the raw water intake to free the clog.

Connect another fresh water intake source that T's to the current intake before the strainer. Then you would have 2 intake sources. Not likely to both clog at once. Ask Ranger, Andrew, if this will cause any problems. My guess it would not. I expect to do this soon myself.

If your impeller is damaged, you will need to get out the parts of the vanes that could impede flow through the heat exchanger. Match retrieved parts to the old impeller to make sure you get them all. This can be done without taking the engine apart. Discussed in earlier posts.

good luck

For future reference on a D4 Volvo, if when replacing the impeller and one finds pieces are missing and need to be retrieved to prevent blockage to the heat exchanger, what needs to be opened up to retrieve the pieces? My plan of course is to replace it long before it goes to pieces, but just in case.....
