Hey Ranger
Could you let me know who I would need to talk to to get info on installing a windlass. My main questions are how power and control wiring is run. I would like to know if there are any chase wires run and where. pictures would be great. I want to get a full plan together before I start.
thx,mark

Hey there Mark,

Regarding the windlass, you would have to start from scratch. We do not install or pre wire anything for this. Would have to run two heavy gauge wires from the bow to the helm area and two small wires for the bow switches. We use a Lewmar windlass and they have pretty good schematics of how the wiring is supposed to be. I am pretty sure you worked through Longbeach and would take a minute to run over there to see one with the windlass installed to get an idea of how it works.

Thank you!

Hi Andrew
Thanks for the response
I understand whats req to wire the windlass. I just need to know how/where the wires are run from the helm to the windlass. Down low near the thruster then up or up high along starboard side? I though I could maybe get a pic or? of a boat in manufacture
thx,mark

The cushions in the v birth of the R 23 are difficult at best, to remove. In trying to come up with a solution I pulled at the small, square upright cushion in the middle under the chain locker. Behind it I found a hole 4-5 inches across that exposes the inside of the hull. There are wires for the windless controls (factory ordered) and you can see the drain tube for the locker. I was looking for a way to get power to the bow to mount a spot/flood light. If you remove the step to enter the v birth and shine a light toward the bow you will see it. Not blocked, wire can be pulled between these two locations. I am trying to get an inspection camera to snake up the starboard side to get to the fuse/power distribution panel forward of the helm, it is very tight with cable. That’s all I have as far as the cable run goes.

BUT I discovered that by removing that single square cushion, that the seat cushions have more room to move and easier to get to the storage beneath them.

Thanks, that def helps. I'm seeing the drain line and a gap where wires could be fished up on the bow side of chain locker and into locker (to windlass) similar to trailer wiring. Question for you. when looking at the windlass inside the locker is the wiring coming from the bow or stearn side of locker. There is a hole in the stearn wall of my locker thats been filled with white silicon, I thought that might be where windlass wiring would be run.
thanks again

BTW.. this is awesome. great tip
