Reading Light replacement suggestions

I would like to replace the reading lights in the forward berth that only shine directly down into your eyes instead of onto the book! Has anyone done this? If so, was it possible to simply remove the old ones and install a more practical design LED light without totally dismantling the ceiling? Thanks.
