I’d like to install rear view mirrors on the starboard and maybe the port railings. I made an archive search and saw a suggestion for ATV mirrors. If you have a rear view mirror, what do you use?

if you have a newer garmin you can put in a virb camera back there and display the image on the Garmin.
Also the camera systems that are now sold as part of auto reversing systems are stupidly cheap with an included screen. so you can just install a whole separate system. Doesn't really matter if there are distance lines on the overlay 😀

I bought two ATV mirrors from Cabela's. Similar to this

Now I know I'm gonna get my measurements wrong, but you'll know what I mean. The ATV mirrors are meant to clamp on 1.75" rail whereas the boat rails are 1.25".

I went to Lowe's and bought two pvc pipe couplers to fill in the gaps.

Split them in half on band saw. Wrapped the pvc couplers on the rail, then tightened the ATV rail clamp over the coupler

A lack of visibility for oncoming boats in crowded SW Florida channels during "season" prompted us to look for mirrors two years ago. Crazy as this sounds, we found the answer in golf cart mirrors. (Why you need a mirror on a golf cart defies my imagination). Anyway, they mount to the outside of the cockpit, fold flat when not in use, are a good quality plastic (no rust) and have held up perfectly for two years. Just Google "Golf cart mirrors" and you'll see plenty of them. They really work!.

Here are images of the mirrors we mounted on our R31.
They are motorcycle mirrors, be sure to get real 1" mounts as most are 7/8"
We bought the largest cycle mirrors we could find.
Work quite well.

AMAZON CIPA 48502 5” CONVEX ROUND SS. $19.94 INCLUDES SOLD ATTACHMENTS

Here’s what I came up with:

They are designed for use on golf carts, but work very well on a Ranger Tug. I used 1” adel clamps to mount them. There is a slight amount of vibration from the engine, but it does not affect their usefulness. I’m very pleased with the large, clear image.

I really wanted a “fold in” feature for when the boat is in my slip.

I used about a bazillion Adel clamps while building my airplane. Aircraft Spruce, Chief Aircraft in Oregon, Amazon, eBay and improvedracing.com are some of the places where I obtained my adel clamps.
