I’m a bit lost here, I need suggestions for brand, model, mounting location and power source. I’m thinking a wireless remote would be best? I am a bit concerned about mounting one on the top of the pilot house because of reported glare/reflections from the bow area. Has anyone mounted one on a bow rail? Is the mast a good spot?

Mounting on the mast is probably better than pilot house roof but you will still get tremendous glare off the foredeck and the bow rail (we had a mast mounted spotlight on our R25SC and the glare made it of marginal value and negatively impacted our night vision). Others have opted for a good handheld out the window, which is probably the most cost effective way to do this unless you had a specific need for a spotlight on a very regular basis.

I have a 2012 R27. The spotlight was completely useless mounted at the factory location on top of the pilot house because of the glare from the white bow and the railings. I moved it to the mast above the radome hoping the radome would shadow the bow. It does, but not enough. However, it is more usable.

The only workable solution I’ve seen here on Tugnuts is a baffle around the exterior of light extending out several inches. After I read about that, I studied the spotlights on tow boats here on the Ohio River where I live and noticed that they are equipped with baffles. Rich Merrill (rpmerrill on Tugnuts) made a highly engineered baffle for his R27— from a paint can!
