Hi Everyone,

If I’m leaving the boat in a wet slip without any shade getting heavy south florida sun, how should I leave the A/C? Always on? Dehumidifier on?

Thanks

We use a dehumidifier on ours. Might want a tarp over to shade. I made hatch and wind covers from 1/2' foam insulation panels. Helps a lot. Might want to crack a window if you can keep rain out. Some run AC, but i do not like leaving machinery, with flowing water when not on boat.

Take a look at:

we live near Palm Beach and run our unit 24/7. The boat’s built-in Air Conditioner failed when the pump for cooling water gummed up with leaves and the air-conditioner banged itself to death starting it overheating starting and overheating.

We replaced both the Air Conditioner and Pump and sat down to try to find a better way to do dehumidify our Boat.

We bought a second air-conditioner for $68 on sale at Walmart. Since it is air cooled, we don’t have to worry about grime floating by and clogging up the pump.

The $68 air conditioner keeps the boat crispy dry all the time. It uses so little electricity our slip Lord doesn’t charge us extra. It also runs nicely of the boats inverter and Easley keeps up when the engine is running without starting the generator.

Half the price of a good dehumidifier. When we use the boat, we frequently let the Air Conditioner run and it keeps the boat comfortable in the daytime and quite cool at night. Even when I plug it in the marina we only start the big Air Conditioner during the middle of the day when we’re going in and out.
