Hello,

The refrigerator on our 2021 R25 is acting up. When I turn it on it’ll run for a bit, maybe an hour or so, then stop cooling. It still has power, just inoperable.

I checked the fuse, tried cycling the power on/off, but can’t seem to get it to run long enough to get very cold.

Hoping someone might have an idea what’s wrong?

Note - it started doing this after I accidentally left the house power off for a couple weeks. But not sure if that’s correlation or causation.

You didn't mention the thermostat. How is your thermostat set? Is it maxed out to the highest setting? If not you just may need to set it to a colder setting.

I’m assuming a Novakool fridge. I recently had a problem with ours cycling erratically after being shut down for the winter. It eventually settled down on its own but in the process I found excellent troubleshooting information on their website. I also got great phone support from the factory. You can also email novakool@novakool.com.

You didn't mention the thermostat. How is your thermostat set? Is it maxed out to the highest setting? If not you just may need to set it to a colder setting.

Started with the same thermo setting I always have used, 4.5, which has worked great in the past. Also tried cranking it all the way to 7, same result - shuts off after a bit.

Is this when operating on shore power or battery? Your comment about leaving the house power off makes me think of looking at the battery first.

Yes, I should have mentioned that. It happens when running on both shore power and house bank. Monitoring the voltage, and it seems to be hight enough in either case.

To close the loop on my issue - I ended up removing the fuse, propping the door open and just letting it sit for a few days. For whatever reason it started working again after that. My only guess is that there was some residual water left on a sensor or something, left over from when it initially thawed, and it just needed to dry out a little more.

On perhaps a different issue. These NovaKool refrigerators are extremely sensitive to frost build up in the freezer section. Per NovaKool even 1/4” of frost buildup on the cooling plate can cause problems. The cooling plates are insulated by the ice and cold air from the freezer will not travel down to the rest of the refrigerator. It will run and run but it will not cool the refrigerator section. Frost buildup can be from several causes but having a bad door seal is the most common culprit.

That might cause a different kind of issue but was definitely not the problem in this case. Per OP, there was zero frost, It was just not cooling more than an hour or so.
