My remote controller of the thrusters has lost connection with main base ( receiver/ transmitter). I need help locate the main base in the boat so I can pair it again? Can you help? I looked many places but no success. I also had a thread on the general discussion assuming others would have seen the receiver/ transmitter. I was given some optional locations but it was not there. Your help will be appreciated.

Hello Patrik,

Your receiver is located below the thruster joystick controller. It will need to be removed. Look down and then forward. There is a black box with a red LED on the side and a small black button next to it. The location of the box can be difficult to reach, so you may need to feel around for the button.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank you,

Thank you. I found it! It is just hanging by its harnesses way down. Should there be any lights on when it is powered (rocker switch on)? There are none and when I push the pairing button (tired 7 times) no lights turn on (should be red and green blinking). I'm suspecting there is no power to it. Is there a separate fuse someplace for this receiver? Any other ideas?
Regards,
Patrik

Hello Jared,
I’m just following up to see if you had any thoughts on the questions above.

Kind Regards,
Patrik

Yes, there should be an LED on the box when it is powered on. Check the button fuse above the rocker switch and ensure it is not popped out. Also, verify that the box wiring hasn’t become disconnected. Inspect the fuse for the switch panel and check if the wiring on the back of the switch panel is securely connected. Are you seeing power at the thruster switch?

I checked the rocker switch and it does not have power. The rocker switch fuse has popped and when I press it in it will not let me reset it. You mentioned a fuse on the panel too. I looked at the head panel and the aft panel and I don’t see a fuse description there. Is it in another location? Looking in the manual it looks like there should be a 5A fuse before the battery.

And I am not able to reach the connector to the receiver to see if it has come loose. When I stick my arm down I can barely reach the connector with my fingers ( one hand) but not enough to push or pull. To do this I will have to cut a hole and add a hatch.
The joystick controls still work so they must have power from a different source.

Ok, I found the main fuse for the remote thruster controller. This 20A fuse is called Subpanel 4 Switch and is located in the aft panel and covers the macerator and defrost fan too. The fuse is good. According to the Ranger Tug manual there is also the 5A fuse dedicated for the Thruster Wireless Remote. I have not found this fuse yet. Any ideas where it can be?

There is no other fuse for the thruster remote receiver. If the fuse at the switch is not resetting then that's the issue. The fuse for the whole switch panel is behind the dash and will be labeled (Switch Panel and be a 30A fuse).

Thanks Jared. I located the wire called “ switch panel 4” and label hanging next to it refers to it as “Outboard Sw Panel”. Anyway, that one is 30A as you mentioned. I checked it and it is good, 12V. The defroster fans work so that also confirms power is available going out from this fuse. So, somewhere between the fuse and the rocker switch the power is interrupted.
I doubled checked the rocker switch power by removing the “4 panel” from the instrument panel and removed the red wire from the rocker switch named “remote thruster”. I then checked its voltage to ground ad it is zero. Should be 12V.
Any ideas of where it can be interrupted in this path?

You would see voltage 12 or a little higher if there was power. On the back side of that switch panel you have a power bar that runs across the top to power all the switches and below that it feeds into all the breakers for the switches. In the picture attached you will see a finger pointing to the fuse connection. If there is no power there, then it’s a bad fuse. If do see power then it’s a bad switch. It’s most likely the breaker has gone bad. IMG_4324.jpeg

I checked the long power bar and it has 12.9V. I checked all four fuse connections and 3 showed 12.9V but the one you point to for the remote thruster, is 0V. I assume the long power bar is powered by the 30A fuse but just to confirm I switched the 30A fuse to a new one. No change in readings.
You mentioned that if it reads 0V it is the fuse. Are referring to the fuse on the rocker switch or the 30A fuse? The fuse on the rocker switch is open and will not close when I push it in. I take it that it needs power to actuate.

Update. I removed the fuse connection power for the thruster remote and moved over the fuse connector power from the macerator ( to the right of your finger in the picture). Now the rocker switch lit up when turned on. Also the LED on the thruster receiver lit up. Unfortunate I was not able to synch the remote but that will be a later challenge.
So the question stands; what hinders the power to go to the fuse connector even though the fuse is good ( replaced)?

I think I have a solution. The 3A fuse above the rocker switch is broken. I switched with the anchor fuse, same 3A fuse, and now it works. I was also able to synch the receiver to the remote so overall it works.

How do I get hold of a replacement 3A fuse? The anchor switch did not use it but it is good to have a spare in case something like this happens again.

Pictures below of what I did and the fuses.

I glad the cause of the issue has been found. Here is a link to fisheries website where you can find that part:

Thanks for your support.
