I've had Wassail for a week now and have hit my toe 2x on the bracket coming out of the lower right corner of the Novakool reefer. Yowch! As far as I can tell, it serves no purpose other than making it possible to change the swing of the door.

Does it serve a purpose?

Wow that is a weapon.. I would think it just got over looked at the factory as there is no reason to have it in place..
Mine is gone just the screws in place to fill the holes.. Top one has the bracket to help keep the door closed in rough water

I have to look. I think mine may still be there. I thought it was left on to help prevent the door from sagging when closed.

In a long conversation with my toes they decided I could do better than the original designed toe protector. Since this picture was published I have modified the wooden guard on the refrigerator toe hazard to include a surround of medium density black foam on the surface most likely to contact toes. Yes, I feel your pain as the ex president once said. I found that it is not just the pivot that is a toe removal hazard but the door as well. No photos yet but you can imagine nice soft toe enticing foam on the wood protruding from under the ref in the link below. One long screw holds this assembly in place, not hard to do.
