This is a bucket list item. Can anyone put us in touch with New Yorkers who may have done this and/or help with logistics.
Many thanks.

I was at the New York Boat show yesterday and had a great conversation with staff from the Canal Commission. When I mentioned I wanted to do the canal this summer they told me to contact them when I’m ready and they can help with planning my trip. eriecanalway.org and the canal system app have useful planning tools as well.

2025 marks the bicentennial of the Erie Canal and they have a bunch of events planned. As part of the celebration the canal will be open until November this year to accommodate a commemorative voyage of the Seneca Chief from Buffalo to New York City and back that starts on September 24.

Lots to unpack with this plan. Are you looking for a boat for a week or to do the entire canal. I remember when we did the canal there were canal boats for rent by the week in the vicinity of Lyons. Renting an RT, if available, would be very large expense for any period beyond a week I'm presuming. If you're an RT owner now, you might find shipping your boat to the canal a reasonable expense compared to renting there (again if available) if you're planning a full canal trip.

We did the Erie Canal last year as part of our Great Loop trip. I wrote an article about the trip for the America's Great Loop Association to be published in May. If you are not a member, I can send it to you when it is out. pm me with your email addres.. Alternatively check out our blog; https://hygge-adventure.blogspot.com/search?q=069 entries 69 thru 073.
