Well, Garmin has sent my 4212 back - about a 2 week turn around... They replaced the main circuit board with new - $500 plus shipping...
The problem was it would start up immediately if cold... But if you shut it off it would have to cool down for an hour or more before it would start again - not real convenient...
I'm burning it in now and I have done at least a dozen power cycles over the past 4 hours... No problems so far... I suspect I will put it back in the boat tomorrow...
