Hi,

I recently purchased a 2008 Ranger Tug 25 Classic and discovered that two of the fresh water lines have breaks: 1) near the hot water heater on the starboard stern in the engine compartment and 2) somewhere between the galley sink and and aft head. Is there a maintenance manual for the ranger 25 that covers gaining access to the fresh water system and replacing lines? The material looks like pex -- is it a special type of pex and what's the recommended connection: crimp, shark bite or ?

Thanks,

I had a leak from the water intake on our 2010 Classic. To get to it I cut a hole in the cabinet backing and then used a piece of Starboard to cover it. That gave me access and yet wasn't visible in the main cabin.

The water intake is platic and prone to splitting in a seam. Easy to change out.

Not sure if they used slip on pvc tubing in 2008. On my 2016 r27 they did. If the slip on connections are not fully inserted there will be small leaks. I noticed them by my pump cycling when no water was used.

I don’t think those slip on connections are supposed to be used in such an environment. Sure, they are quick to install and relatively cheap, but with all that vibration, perhaps, prone to relax.

I will replace all those tubes with proper double crimped hoses and run each hose in some conduit against chafe.

I work building a $4M boat, they use the same slip on connection fittings. But, they use a U shaped lock that clips onto the fitting that prevents the hose from pulling back out and leaking.

Hello Don,

We didn't used pex pipe on the 2008 25's. We started using pex about 2 yrs ago. unless the previous customer maybe change out some fittings? I can help you with that if you send me a photo of the connections to my email address. regarding the access you will have to remove the refrigerator and use some what of a snake to run new hoses if you need to replace new hoses if necessary, which that's what I will be doing if you have a break in the system vs tracking it down.

thanks Don,
