Just thought I would share a modification to my R25 that went rather well.

When I got my 2010 Ranger Tug I found the table overly large and uncomfortable "squeezing" into the seats.
It is fine if you are still 145 pounder but I have a few more pounds now to squeeze in.

I removed the table top and had another built (1/2" plywood from Home Depot) had a carpenter put an edge around the perimeter and it is raised only on the companion-way side). After painting a teakish colour it came to $300).

I now use two 16" wide by 41.5" boards (again from Home Depot) to lay-in as a bed after the new dinette table is lowered. I plan to store these two boards under the mat in the "cave" or rear sleeping compartment when not in use.

Hi Bob,

Do you have pix?

Dave

Bob: ditto... need photos please. Thanks. 🙂 BTW... what thickness did you use for the bed/berth boards ? I would think at least 3/4" would be needed.

Update:

The two "16" x "41 1/2" boards that are the removeable bed of the dinette sleeping area (table top lowered to just below these boards) are 7/8 th of an inch thick.
Purchased at Home Depot, laminated knotty pine department.

Had a nap on it yesterday and it is more than adequate, quite lovely actually.
Mind you, I wouldn't want to share the sleeping area with another unless she was extremely skinny.
Perfect for one, awkward for two.

When I sell the boat I will be presenting the buyer with the two tables, however, I cannot imagine anyone wanting to re-install that monster table top provided by Ranger Tugs. Sorry, Ranger, but it is definitely a design problem.

We just returned from a long weekend in Netarts, OR . Our last stop before returning home was to buy a new table base at the RV supply store. We decided that most of our meals could be eaten at a table half the size that Lance built into our camper when they made it. We cut plywood to fill the hole where the table usually supported the bed. Our son sleeps in the dinette and we never pull the supports out all the way so the plywood is only half the size of the table. Now we can open the bathroom door all the way without hitting the table when Parker is sleeping. All I have to do now is build a smaller table top.

Table top building for the camper can be practice for a smaller table for the cockpit on our 21. Ours is a 2009 without the table in the cockpit that Ranger now supplies. I thinks it is too big and want a smaller one so I am only going to order the base from Ranger.

We had a Grand Banks 32 with a folding table. We never put up one side of the table the entire time we owned the boat. I think you could have sat 8 at the table for a formal dinner.

Building tables that are too big must be a common problem in the RV/Boat industry. We got the idea to make a smaller table from the people we camped next to that had done it. I mentioned how comfortable their dinette was in their motorhome. They said that they had had a smaller table made as they were not 5'10" and 165 pounds. Now I get home and read this post. Small world with common problems!

I have a smaller table that the previous owner had built for my R-25. I'm willing to sell it for a reasonable price and the cost of shipping it from Michigan. Please send me a private message if interested. I can email pictures and dimensions.
