I'm replacing the engine hatch insulation on my 2011 R29. I'm using the same Soundown product. If anyone has done this, I'm appreciate comments on my plan.
1) removed old insulation (there will be a footprint of the old insulation remaining).
2) measure footprint of old insulation and make a cardboard template
3) take measurements of the screw holes in the engine hatch and transfer the pattern to the cardboard.
4) remove and clean engine hatch of old foam (Soundown said removal of the old glue is not necessary since it's cured)
5) Test fit cardboard template and confirm screw hold placement.
6) cut new insulation according to the template and pre-puncture hold in insulation (insulation has a plastic membrane between two layer.
7) insert screws into insulation through the plastic membrane.
8) Because the hatch will be in the open position, I'll be removing the hatch actuator arm and bracing the hatch in the open position
9) spray glue on the hatch and insulation according to Soundown installation instructions.
10) Align the "upper" mounting screws ( and fender washers) with their existing pre-drilled holes and attach the insulation working my way "down" the hatch. I think there are 9 screw points
11) press foam to hatch to make the bond and done.
