I am replacing the VHF on my RT 25. The current radio is Garmin VHF 200. I am seriously looking at the Standard horizon GX2400B, it checks all the boxes and has solid review. The 2400 has AIS reiver, DSS, NEMA2K, DSC etc.

Does anybody in the Tug community have experience with the GX2400B as a replacement. Does anybody have a recommendation for a different VHF.

Thanks,
Bob Flaherty

I replaced the Garmin 200 on our 2013 R27 with the same Standard Horizon AIS VHF. It’s a good choice. Good radio and fit in the same hole on the dash.

Thanks for responding. It is good to know that you have experience with the standard horizon. My new radio arrived yesterday.

Can anyone confirm the gx2400 fits in the same spot as the Garmin 200 without modifying the dash?

That's good to know. My Garmin VHF 200 has stopped turning on. Might be something really stupid - any suggestions welcome. If it has failed, I'll take a serious look at the GX2400B.

i'm more of a fan of ICOM radios. I think they are better quality, personally.

Cutwater seems to be moving, at least in part, to icom. My 2022 c-288 comes with an icom 510. It’s probably not a drop in replacement, but does have some unique features (intercom from radio to phones via WiFi, remote operation of radio from any phone, Ais receive).

The GX2400 fit into the opening where my Garmin 200 was without modification. My 200 was unable to connect to the NEMA network and unable to receive any data from my GPS and did not show on my NEMA, Garmin or Marine networks.

The 2400 was truly plug and play. It shows on my NEMA Network and outputs AIS info to the chart plotter.

It looks like the ICOM 510 has some nice features via their app for IPhone etc. The 510 looks like it costs about twice as much. I cannot attest to the quality differences between ICOM and SH. All my prior boats has SH and those radios served me well.
