I am about to haul my R23 and replace the gear case on the 110TT Bow Thruster ---I looking for any videos or advise/insight from anyone who has done this replacement. Hopefully the plan is to haul the boat and reinstall a new unit on the same day
I have previously removed the (4) -1/2" bolt electric motor assembly-- so that does not appear to a problem--- I was then able to access the 2 hex nut fixing bolts to the gear case and loosen one of them easily.
1.The new gear box 589454 does not come with mounting saddle and there are no leaks now--
Can I assume that when I remove the old gear case w/gasket-- that I will not disturb the mounting saddle and I will able to leave it place and reuse It?
2. I will be doing this operation by myself--
Can I assume that the only time I will need help is when someone positions the new gear case unit in the thruster tunnel outside the boat -while I insert the 2 hex bolts into the new gearcase unit?
Any thoughts/comments appreciated.

Replaced mine recently as there was an earlier thread “Bow Thruster Leaking Oil” simple fix. Find the Manual for Lewmar 110TT online has the install instructions. I used 3M 4200 on both sides of gasket. An extra set of hands would help to hold gearcase while you thread bolts. Please post back whether or not plug is in bottom of gearcase as mine was missing which caused failure. I also ran a bead of 4200 around plug on bottom of gearcase to hopefully keep it from going missing again. Yes you reuse the saddle.
Good luck Jimmy R23

The plug in the gear case was also missing on my C 24 two to three years ago. It was still under warranty so Lewmar sent me a new one. I also put a bead of sealant around the plug which has been holding up so far.

Thanks, good to know it’s holding up.

Thanks all for your help/info!....I will let you know how it goes...right now waiting on Lewmar... they have the gearbox in stock, but they claim to have a 7-10day backlog to process to their dealers to ship to me. They do not ship directly to customer. Apparently the 110TT gearcase is not typically in stock with dealers. (PS I also ordered a new propeller-in case I have trouble in removing the old one.)

Finally got around to hauling my 2019 R23 (only 160 hrs) and confirming that the bottom plug on the Thruster 110TT gearcase (like in case of '"WENCHRIS'" & "KKRCRACE") was missing. This caused gears to lock up and replacing was - as stated by others- relatively painless (4hrs) - but involved a costly haul out + replacement part.
I plan I calling Lewmar --- but I believe boat is off warrantee...I don't expect any relief ... but was wondering if they had a suggested reinforcement of the faulty cap design.
I am curious if added bead of 3M 4200 on the replacement bottom cap of gearcase as suggested by "WENCHRIS" is holding up?
I would appreciate any update on this matter since I am sure others have had similar issues with this Lewmar 110TT gearcase cap popping off- especially those that are hauled out in winter in NE and subjected to freeze/thaw

Mine has been holding up for a couple years now. My C24 is a 2018 and maybe Lewmar had a bad run of them. I would call them anyway to see if they think is was a bad batch. I don’t think they even asked how old it was and they also replaced my bad windless without question.
KKRCRACE

Tks KKRCRace... will contact Lewmar tomorrow & see what they say....

Nicky,
Please post the results of your conversation with Lewmar….
Occasionally I check the plug and it’s still there….
Jimmy

For those of you (Jimmy et al) interested.... see below record of my correspondence with LEWMAR
-Note: No relief or suggestions(other than add some 4200 on cap) from LEWMAR FACTORY reps concerning the reoccurring Problem of "sealed cap" failing causing gearcase failure on LEWMAR 110TT GEARCASE.
I am going to look into a different brand compatible gearcase replacement-for when my new one goes bad. Very disappointed in LEWMAR... especially after they did not respond to all info they requested/received from me.

Good morning Nick,
Thank you for contacting Lewmar tech support.
The Lewmar TT thruster series has a 3 year mechanical warranty.
Unfortunately as this failure happened outside the scope of that timeline it would not be covered for replacement.
The replacement that you have purchased will have a one year replacement.
For any further questions please reply directly to this email.
Thank you,
Brad D.

As discussed – please see attachments in reference to the failure of my Lewmar 110 TT bow thruster. Please note this boat is a 2019 Ranger Tug that has been used in Long Island sound for 5 seasons (160hrs). It was stored on land out of water all 5 seasons. (Since this boat was subject to a freezing – I believe moisture got in the system which blew out the poorly designed seal plug ).The Thruster was operational removed from the water last season . Thruster failed immediately after Boat was launched in May 2023
Attachment #1– photos of failed Lewmar Thruster - note sealed cap missing.

Attachment #2- TUGNUTS WEB site link indicating 2 other failed Lewmar 110 TT Thruster gear case.. see entries number 2,3,4,6,7&8.

Attachment #3 Mauripro receipt for replacement Lewmar Bow Thruster Composite Gearbox 110TT ($283)
Since I believe there has been a Direct connection to the early failure of Lewmar 110TT bow thruster due to failed sealed cap -I believe full or partial Reimbersement of the bow thruster or Supply a new one -since I’m sure the new one I just installed- will fail also .Please contact me if you require any additional information.
Thank you for your help in this matter
