whilst the charging system on my cutwater 28 is pretty simple to use frankly I'm not the biggest fan.

1. i'm pretty convinced that the promariner, acr, solar charger setup boils the batteries and shortens their life. and I dont think the promariner does a great job of conditioning them. I'm getting less than 3 years on a new set of AGM's. not terrible but definitely not great. these batteries have never been overly discharged; and have only be down less than 90% state of charge twice! I expect more life out of them.

2. the ACR approach and their time delay measuring voltage input creates the situation where house and engine battery is combined and a draw down can occur on the engine battery. this is problematic when shadows on the solar panel occur regularily. basically the solar panel in full sun pushes the volts up temporarily. the boat swings causing a shadow. The ACR has the batteries still combined and now there are no volts from the panel but the batteries are combined so both house and engine battery are used to power on board items

im interested in hearing if anybody has changed out the promariner and or wiring with another setup. Ive been looking at the blue victron gear but keen for thoughts.
