This is a question to those who have a classic r27 with reverse cycle ac units.

I know the units are installed in the cavity below companion steps. Cooling water is exspelled thru the wall in this vicinity.

How is the air circulated? Where are the air outlet and return air registers/openings. I am retrofitting mine and just like compare my ideas with the original install.

Guidelines to install ac units recommend to not draw in air from compartments that have connections to the bilge. Kinda hard on our boats as all compartments under the liner are connected to the bilge and the cabin is not airtight

It all depends on the type unit you are installing. My unit is split. The compressor and control unit are under the step on port and the coil unit is installed under the bow cushion so the return air flows through a vent facing out below the removable cushions. The supply air comes out port and starboard. One on the counter by the helm seat close to the wall and the other port on the small space by the seat cushion.

On a self contained unit the return air would most likely be under the microwave ( figure out how to remove the filter) and then I would have a supply to the v-berth and then distributed a couple of spots port. I doubt you could get a supply to the starboard side. The whole problem with any of the systems is being able to get the supply air high enough. It is always best to have cool air supplied as high as possible.
