Is there a way to use raw water?

Not sure what you are asking. The a/c unit sucks raw water up and out a thru hull on port side forward. If you are in fresh water than it is fresh water. If you are in salt water then it is salt water.

I havent found a thru hull fitting other than two in the engine bay.
Ive found that my 2010 R29 uses the fresh water, fresh water from the on board tank, others have posted that theirs use raw water, raw water indicates the water that the boat is floating in.
My generator will shut down if the power to the AC units is on and there is no water in the fresh water tank.
While running the AC/heater units, a substantial amount of water is leaving the two fitings, one for the bow unit- the other for the aft unit, I then find tha he fresh water tank is substantially drained.

I wonder if theres a 3 way fitting that would allow the fresh water tank for winterizing.

Something is wrong if the fresh water tank is draining. They should be using raw water. It would be a good idea to have it checked out.

There must be some plumbing mix up as you suggested. Look in the engine room and find the pump for the A/C and follow it backwards. you will get your answer.

Your issue is rather odd. the A/C uses a tremendous amount of water. If it is connected to your fresh water the tank would drain quite quickly. You should have a thru hull for the A/C. If you are at the dock shut all the thru hulls and turn on the A/C. It should shut down from lack of water. You may have a domestic water leak and that is why the tank is emptying. I find it hard to believe that the installer hooked the A/C up to the domestic water. If he did he should find another line of work.

Hello VJ,

I think you are onto something there...

Perhaps a previous owner installed a "bypass" or 3-way valve to switch between normal raw-water operation versus letting the AC pump draw antifreeze for winterization via the fresh water tank.

It sounds like a 'boat crawl' from stern to stem is in order as you hunt for thru-hulls and AC plumbing.

Good luck,

dave

Seeing as you are in Alaska.I'm wondering as you say a winterizing valve was installed that is hooked up to supply antifreeze to Freshwater pump, Generator and A/C unit , If left in the wrong position could have all these pulling water from the fresh water tank through a back feed from the water pump, That would explain why the generator stops when the A/C stops .. they are both out of fresh water. This would be something a previous owner would have installed ... not a factory option.
Please let us know what you find as a few of us are anxiously waiting to know the answer 🙂
Good hunting.

Boat was purchased and used exclusively in Florida before I bought her.
Ive crawled as far as my body will allow, pulled the fridge out, opened and inspected the quarter birth access door, no luck finding the 3 ways to the AC units.

Any 3 way would be accessible easily or would make no sense .. Would be under one of the rear hatches .. Or someone has had a hose off and connected wrong. On my 29 the A/C pump is on the port side beside the engine...it is a white unit .. If you can find that it is simple to follow the hose back.. It should connect to a seacock You will hear it come on when the A/C turns on so you can find it easy .
