I've asked several electricians this question and get conflicting answers. I recently added shore power for a 110 volt air conditioner to my Ranger 21 EC. All connections have been checked and rechecked to ensure the hot wire, L-1-BLACK, neutral wire L-2 WHITE and ground wire GREEN are wired consistenly. The main breaker has a reverse polarity indicator light. The breaker does not trip when power is connected, I have power to the air conditioner and more importantly I DONT GET ELECTROCUTED when I touch anything. My question is: When connected to shore power should the reverse polarity indicator light be SHINNING or OFF?

Thank you,

Karl

Hello Karl,

When connected to shore power, the reverse polarity indicator should be OFF. When lit, it signifies a problem; the "hot" black wire and the "neutral" white wires have been reversed in your shore power receptacle you are plugged into. COMMONLY, the reverse polarity indicator is ON when using a portable generator...old threads on tugnuts discuss this and the modification of the genset to fix it.

Please post pics of your shore power installation and AC setup!

Fair winds and cool cabins,

dave
