Roche Harbor Tugnuts- Question about dogs

HI- We are still in the process of getting our R27, and really looking forward to going to the Roche Harbor event if we get it! Quick question, are dogs allowed at these meetings? We are not obnoxious dog owners that want to bring them to every event or let them run free, we just take them with us on vacations, walks, hikes and are considerate of everyone else when we have them. Just want to ask before we make plans.

Dogs, while not mandatory, are definitely a part of the boating experience. They keep us fit by making us walk them frequently, keep the docks clean of all crumbs and dropped food items and protect our boats from the pirates we would otherwise encounter in these waters. There are many, many dogs at our Rendezvous and Roche Harbor is very welcoming. And, across the road from the marina is a multi-acre outdoor sculpture park that our dog, Fergus the Wonder Westie, loves to examine.

While on the subject of dogs, what documentation is require for taking our dog into Canada and returning to the US?

Proof of current rabies vaccination is all that is needed; signed by a vet. Vets have the needed format.

Back to Roche Harbor and dogs - at the top of the hill above the marina is a nicely groomed, grass one acre dog park.

They have the lowering of the colors, at least during the summer season, that is quite fun. A little pageantry and music along with announcements. However it ends with a literal bang. Our dog tried to take off for higher ground last time. Better to have sensitive fidos a ways away. The same went for Nanaimo.

They are our buddies but we have to take care of them.

That is great to know, as one of ours is sensitive to fireworks and "bangs'

There will be a big BANG and then plenty of horns, if your pooch is sensitive to that noise, as well.

We too are both dog owners (2 Labs) & own a 27. Please check out our photo album. To help with our dogs getting on and off the boat, it has been one of the best DIY project I've done, and our dogs seem to appreciate it. 😀
 
FYI...
The off-leash dog fenced areas are above the marina and up the steep hill and off to the right beyond the gravel car parking area and is sectioned into two spaces (it's kind of hidden, so persevere). One for large dogs and the other for smaller dogs. There's a water faucet available in both spaces. The large dog space is larger of course. If the water spigot isn't working just call the marina office and someone will take care of it. Pickup bags are also available at the dog run space.
 
Our two Bernese Mountain Dogs happily climb aboard for any outing on our R21EC, and Luna especially likes the TugNuts outings because of all the people she gets to meet. Titan is the dock sweeper.

Titan is the name my son and I have given to our new 12-core MacPro6,1. :lol: It's a 'sweeper' as well.

Great photos of the swim board for dogs! Thanks I will build one for Bailey and Brinkley to get back on the swim step!!

I think signing date for our tug is next tuesday!!!!!
 
I don't use the board for the swim deck, due to the short length of the board, but rather for the step area in the cockpit. On either the port or starboard side, the width of the board fits so that it will lay on the "gunwale step" and I use the two cords to secure the board by tying them to the railings on both sides. It's been really helpful to get my dogs on and off the boat, especially when the tide won't cooperate and the board is at a steep incline, but with the safety steps added, it provides them with grip for their paws. I'll take pics with the board attached so folks can see what I'm talking about. 🙂

When I'm not using it, it lays up against the starboard bulkhead of the cockpit, where the pole clamps are.
