Hi everyone,

We have purchased a 25SC and will be taking delivery on the 25th of May. We are very excited to join the Ranger Tug family. We are currently looking for a Rocna 10 anchor. If anyone has one to sell, please contact us.

You may want to think about a larger anchor. I have the Rocna 15 on my 25SC and the holding is tremendous and we have anchored out in some strong winds. Bigger is always better with an anchor and you will sleep better at night. Only modification needed was a larger bail and moving the bow roller out to the last hole. You may have to do that even with the Rocna 10.

Thanks to everyone on their responses. I am switching to a Rocna 15.

We have used a Rocna 10 on our R-29 for about six years and are very happy with it (never had a problem). I think a "15" on an R-25 is overkill and fit could be a problem.

We use a 35 Mansion Supreme with 50 feet of chain. We boat in a number of different regions. Moving out the bow roller and adding a larger bail was pretty easy to do. Sometimes we anchor end up have a few guests rafting up with us. We have relied on just using our anchor and it seem to hold fine. The extra weight is nice to have and I have to say the 17 pounder that came with the boat looked light in my eyes. I know of a couple of other trailer traveling R 27's that have anchors in the 35 pound range. I certainly don't look at it as an over kill. To each his own.

I have a Rocna 10 on Our Journey, a 2009 R25 Classic.

If you look at the sizing chart at the Rocna website, you will see that for a 8 meter length (26.2 feet) boat using a Rocna 10 anchor it's good up to a displacement of 6 metric tonnes or 6.6 short tons ( approx. 13,200 pounds).

It's my understanding from the 2009 R25 "Spec Sheet" that the displacement on a R25 is 5,700 pounds. Not quite sure how that displacement number was determined. Even if it is an empty boat number and you assume the displacement increases pound for pound when additional weight is added to the boat, when you account for full fuel, full water and holding tanks, four 200 pound passengers and 1,500 pounds of gear and optional equipment the gross displacement should be under 9,000 pounds or 4.5 short tons.

That's well under the 13,200 pound displacement listed on the chart for the Rocna 10. Are my assumptions about displacement correct?? If so, the Rocna 10 should be plenty of anchor.

Our heavy (11,000 lb on the water, loaded for a summer on the Inside Passage) 26-footer has a Rocna 10. The Rocna was an upgrade from a Bruce 7.5. In 800-900 overnight anchorings, we have never dragged with either, in winds to 45 knots. On a few occasions, we have had to re-set once or twice when first anchoring with the Bruce, usually in kelpy or very soft mud bottoms, but once re-set it held. The Rocna was a dramatic improvement, with instant setting, even in kelp, and apparently significantly greater holding power.

My two cents: the Rocna 10 is plenty for a 25 or 27 Ranger. Careful anchoring technique, checking your set, etc will make more difference than a significantly oversize anchor.

I just upgraded the 33lb (15kg) Bruce on my new-to-me Nordic Tug 37 to a Rocna 20.
