I am buying a new Ronca 10 (22lb) for my 2010 RT25SC. I've read all the treads I could find on this. Not sure if I'll need a Mantus Anchor Guard or not at this time. The thing I can't find any information on is any reasoning on the Port or Starboard side versions. Anyone have any insight on this?

Submariner (Channel Surfing),
Thanks for the reply. I've followed your posts and web site. Your information is great! I saw that you did the port side one. Was there any particular fitment reason for the Port side configuration.
Thanks,

Our 2013 R25sc had the Rocna 10 when we bought it, and we upgraded to a Rocna 15. Both fit without modifications and we never had any problems. The guard might help prevent some bumps against the bow plate when raising the anchor, but not really necessary with a bit of care.
There's some pictures of it in my album.

Thanks,

Thank you!

It'll fit on either side, but does require a longer bolt. I picked the port configuration because when I retrieve the anchor I'm standing on the starboard side of the bow facing port. I wanted the anchor guard to be out of my field of view so I could focus on the rode, chain and anchor. I dunno if that really matters. But that's how I chose it.

I would also note, Rocna changed their design slightly. The shank of the anchor is slightly different. I ran the Rocna 10 for a few months and it wasn't until I got my first "dimple" in the stainless steel guard on the bow of the boat that I decided to get the Mantus anchor guard.

Thanks,
That's the info I was looking for.

Almost all of the changes RT makes over the years add value and function. But not every one. I still like my trapezoidal UHMW anchor point protector on our 2009 R-25 Classic. When I upgraded to the Rocna 10, all I had to do was move one bolt on the bow roller. Sure, the black UHMW plastic has a few dings over the past 13 years but I dare you to see them from more than 4 feet away. Maybe I’ll replace it when the boat turns 16 years old - but it could probably last forever if I didn’t. Sometimes bling is just unnecessary.

We upgraded to a Rocna 10 on our 2017 25SC. No guard needed. The new anchor fit fine. We put a Rocna 15 on our new 31 and it definitely needed the Mantus guard. I choose the starboard version figuring I have a starboard tie at the dock and maybe it would make adjustment easier...
