Rocna revised their anchor design, Rocna anchors built after approximately September 2019 no longer fit many Rangers (and probably Cutwaters) without modifying the boat's anchor roller system. For example the revised Rocna 10 (10 Kilogram / 22 Pound) does not fit the Inboard R-25 and R-27, and Outboard R-27; the point of the spade on the revised anchor contacts the boat's bow. Some Rocna retailers still have the older design anchor (built prior to September 2019) in stock, the anchor's build date is printed on a non-permanent sticker located on the anchor's shank. This design change is unfortunate because Rocna is an excellent anchor that sets quickly and holds very well.

I bought a Rocna 10 for our Cutwater C-242 (C24) in January 2020, but I didn't have marina access until last week. Sure enough, it doesn't work without modifications to the boat. I removed the bow ladder to make room for it, and I am currently making an adapter to complete the task.

Looks like they’ve introduced a new Rocna fisherman. Is this the new design you mention? I don’t see on their website that the original rocna has changed? What changed on the original rocna design?

The significant difference is that the shank is positioned further aft on the spade which causes the spade's point to contact the bow. Other than that the revised design looks very much like the prior model Rocna.

good to know thanks!

We are looking at updating our 22 lb anchor that came with the boat. It’s good to have the information so as not to buy the wrong one.

Does anyone know where you can buy the old design Rocna 10? I have a Ranger CB29 Tug and would like to replace the original anchor.

FYI, I just received a new stainless traditional Rocna 15 (33#). It had several inspection stickers indicating that it was manufactured in 2015. 2015-06-04. Not sure if that's June 4th or April 6th, but the year is pretty obvious. It's possible that they have a stockpile of some of the slower moving anchors. If you're looking for an older model, it might be worth an email to the factory to inquire: https://rocna.com/contact-us/

BTW, it's gorgeous! Boat bling on steroids!

I want to add my experience. I had been checking around for a Rocna 10 manufactured before Sept as Glen mentioned. I found on on the shelf at West Marine Everett. It was marked March 2019. So I thought great this will work. Went to my 2020 R27 and hung it on the chain. After slowly testing the retrieve I found it would not work without modifications. The anchor tip will hit the stainless plate on the bow and the cleaves hits the windlass before the anchor is all the way up. So drilled new mounting holes for the anchor roller. I moved the roller about an inch forward. Now the cleaves is clear and the the anchor tip is good. The tip only is close (but still has a solid inch) for a brief moment when retrieving the anchor. Just before the anchor pivots forward and up into the fully retracted position.
Interesting thing is I had contacted Rocna and the sales executive replied. He said they have not changed the classic Rocna but have added the Fisherman. Maybe that is the one that will fit. I have not compared measurements. From what I read the original is still the one I wanted for best holding power. I will see if I can get some photos added to my profile. Mike

The Rocna Fisherman anchor is only available in 9 pound (4 kg) and 13 pound (6 kg) models. Doubt if you got a Fisherman instead of the original in any larger size. And the shackle rail on the Fisherman makes it look very different than the original.

I'm sure that the Mantus Anchormate (https://www.mantusmarine.com/mantus-anchor-mate/) would keep the point of a Rocna off the boat. It is a very simple addition to an existing roller. While I ended up changing my roller for my R-23, the Anchormate did work on my existing roller. Here is a picture of the Anchormate with my original roller. gallery2.php?g2_itemId=67837

I have the Anchormate on my C28 as well. My Rocna 10 worked without it, but it was like 1mm from hitting the front plate, so I wasn't comfortable with that and added the Anchormate. Works fantastic!

I’m not sure there has been a new design on the Rocna “standard” anchor. Here’s the measurement table.
https://rocna.com/fitment-guide/
The measurement B on the 10 kg (22 lb) anchor is 12.3 inches horizontally. As close as I can measure that seems to be the same measurement I get on my decade old Rocna 10.
To get the best fit, the anchor roller was moved forward by about an inch by drilling a new set of holes. In that configuration it’s resting stowed with exactly 3” between the hull and the tip of the fluke.
There is a black rectangular starboard sheet mounted to the hull that gets scratched up deploying and retrieving the anchor on the R-25 Classic so the clearance not a big concern. If the starboard gets too scratched up I may need to replace it in another 10 years or so...
I believe this starboard anchor protector is on the hull side of the 21EC, 25 Classic, 25SC and the 27 Classic. Maybe other models too.

"I’m not sure there has been a new design on the Rocna “standard” anchor". The design of the "standard" Rocna anchor has changed, I installed the new design on an outboard R-27, when the anchor was fully up the point of the spade contacted the bow, I removed the new design anchor and installed the prior design, it fit just fine. If you set the new and prior design anchors next to each other and look at where the shank is welded to the spade, the design change is obvious. I also provided dimensions of the new anchor to Rocna and they verified that it was not misbuilt.
