Hello Tugnuts,
I have recently seen a pull down quick release roof mount rocket launcher rod holder that allows regular height people (5ft 10”) to be actually able to reach fishing rods without standing on the rear seat.

Does anyone know if the quick release version can be retro fitted onto 302’s?

I find the stock roof mounted rocket launchers really hard to use, and would be interested in an upgrade if possible.
Thanks,
Ed604

Hi Ed,
Can you post what you found? I’m interested in the same thing.

Hi there, I am not sure how to post that but. I can tell you where it was. It’s easy to see there.

On the Cutwater site, if you click models, then C-32S you can see it in the photo gallery, it is a feature on the new c-32s

The rod rack looks to have a handle on a rope that lets you pivot it down for ease of reach.

I would like to have that feature on my boat if possible.

Sorry for not posting the photo but should be easy to find. Maybe someone better than I, can easily link one?

I'd be very interested as I'm 5'6" and it's almost impossible for me to access hardtop mounted rocket launchers.

For those interested, I contacted Bolton (where FM sources most stainless parts) and they said:
This is not something that we build at Bolton. Looks like something that would be purchased from Sea-Dog or King Marine to me. Looks like a bunch of different bolt together parts they provide.

Perhaps someone from the factory could share the part numbers for this? I would also appreciate knowing if this needs any special new parts that are different from the 2019 model year?

I think that gswearin may be right in that it might be some collected parts, but with that said, I am still interested what those parts are?
Thank you to any factory people who can answer this, as those of us under 6' 3" sure do appreciate it.

kind regards,
Ed604

It looks like the same setup as on m c-288. If you need close up photos, pm me and next time I’m at the boat I will take some pictures. I’m 6 foot and when the rocket launcher are in the down position, I do hit the top of my head.

That sounds great, I am happy to PM anytime, but I was thinking it might be nice to have the photos here so that anyone who uses the search bar a lot ( like myself) could find this in the future? I have to admit that in order for me to get the rods in and out of the roof mounted rocket launchers I have to step on the back folding seat.

The very real downside of this is that when you are in the middle of a hot streak you are stepping up with slimy shoes and or some blood that hasn't been washed yet.

My tall friends who are over 6'3" can reach it ok but I, (and am sure many) can not!

It would be my hope that this can rise up out of the way when not needed and a quick release when in the middle of it.

thank you for the offer of pictures!

cheers,
Ed604

I will try to post the pictures here, but haven’t had much luck lately

And yes, it is spring loaded

Hi Tugnuts,
I think I will try and call the factory and ask the question to them directly. I am thinking that this might fit onto the existing boats as I don’t think the mould has changed or the rails that are used?
I am thinking this is the answer to the issue of hard to use rocket launchers.

I was hoping that a factory rep would see this and chime in but I can respect it's pretty hard to keep up with running a business and responding to a forum.

I will call tomorrow and follow up here.
Cheers,

Finally got down to the boat and have the photos. Can’t figure out how to upload them. If someone wants to get them , pm me

The rod holder is on gas struts.when up, a foot swings down to lock it in the up position. As in the picture in the previous post, there is a rope with a handle, when pulled, it lifts the foot out of the way and you can pull down the rod holder

Photos currently can't be added to post from member albums. The can be added using the Img tag and inserting the URL of the photo on a publicly accessible website, i.e. iCloud, Google Photos, DropBox, Flickr, etc.

Cheers,

Bruce

Thanks for posting the pictures. The pictures are taken from the port side. The first three are taken with the rod holders in the down position. The last two pictures are with the rod holders in the locked up position.

Ed

when in the down position are they in the way? why not leave them there all the time?

I hit my head when they are down, I’m just shy of 6 foot. Those who are vertically challenged probably won’t have an issue. Also the holders are at a lower angle, so rods might find it easier to fall out.

Ed

Yes thank you so much for posting these pictures!
I wonder what is entailed in a retro fit of these? looks like some drilling and fastening of the four feet?
this seems like a good solution to can't reach it club!

I called the factory once to no avail but I will try again as it was later in the day.
cheers,

Hi Tugnuts,
I called in to the office and was told that an email was better to send. So I sent an email to the parts department, and i received and answer today.

The pull down rod holder is available to purchase and I was told that it sells for $1,160.00

The parts person said that a different department would have to confirm if there was any conflict with a retrofit on the boat itself. In looking at the pictures it seems pretty simple to drill some holes and through bolt the feet? not sure if the roof itself would need a backing support plat between the teak ply soffit and the underside of the fiberglass to prevent any cracking?

I will post follow as things move along.

kind regards,
Ed604
