If I could figure out how to attach pictures, I would show everyone the storage pod I mounted on the top of my R-27. I bought a used white Yakima Rocketbox and mounted it on the starboard side roof rack. It mounted easily and fits nicely between the solar panel and the side handrails. I mounted it forward enough to allow for easy access from the cockpit to the side walkway. This required drilling new forward mounting holes in the Rocketbox. I do not plan on hauling heavy objects in the pod, but it doubles the storage that was available in the floor of my cockpit since my R-27 had a generator, etc. The Rocketbox is designed to mount on the luggage rack of cars and travel at high speeds. It should be fine when trailering and boating. I hope.

If you want additional storage, take a look at the Yakima Rocketbox.

BTW - It does add about 6-7 inches to the trailering height of the boat.

What size Rocket box do you have?

Good solution.... I have a Volvo cargo box I'm not using anymore. It was used with my Volvo XC90 T6 but have since traded that and now have a Prius 4 that I don't intend to mount the storage box on. I have my kayak on top of my R-27/OB's cabin roof so have no room, plus I have sufficient store on this R-27/Ob and more than I ever thought I'd need.

If you're interested in my storage box PM me.

Lots of folks on here have done the same or similar, including me. I stole the idea from others on this forum. In my case I bought a new Yakima Skybox 12 Carbonite cargo box from Amazon and was able to easily mount it to the starboard side of the roof rack on my former R25SC and my current C30LE using the stock mounting clamps that are built into the box. No new holes required. The only minor downside is that the box limits how far the roof hatches can open.

I just took the box off for winter storage and, after two seasons, the box looks practically new, save for the WD40 I had to spray in the lock to loosen it up. Highly rrecommended product (the box and the WD40 😉 )

I bought a Thule ski box off craigslist for 80 bucks. Mounted on starboard side. Swallows up spare PFDs, cockpit carpet, lawn chairs, folding cockpit table and assorted lines and other boat "stuff" I cant live without. Allows for roof hatch opening and space for a solar panel on port side
