I'm having to replace the cockpit locker flooring in my R29 because they've rotted from spillover rain water. I'm using starboard to avoid a future problem. I can see that the interior edge of the flooring is screwed down, but I see no screw heads on the outer edge. Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know how the outer edge is secured to the hull?

Anticipating the results, Iv'e a few moisture stains from near the refer and galley area.

Are you referring to where the batteries are ? Or the other side ?

I had to replace the cockpit flooring where the batteries are stored. The other side is showing signs of rot as well. I used 3/4" starboard from boatoutfitters.com, which they pre-cut to any specified size. The original cockpit flooring on my R29 is 6 ft long (and about 25" wide), which would be impossible to install in one piece, so I had the board cut into two lengths, with one piece just slightly bigger that the water heater. Although I removed the batteries, I did not have to disconnect or remove the water heater - I merely lifted it up slightly using 2 straps so I could slide the new board under it. The old rotted plywood (3/4 inch) is only screwed down on one side (the side nearest the center of the cockpit). Starboard will not rot, but it will tend to sag in heat and under heavy weight. Where the batteries are located, there's a supporting platform under the board. I added a couple of cross supports elsewhere under the new boards.

I wonder why this is rotting so fast. It must not be able to dry fully after it gets wet, Mine is a 2011 and both sides are in excellent shape. You are correct with the starboard it sure does bend. You should be good now for ever 🙂 ..
