I noticed a grease fitting on the rudder post in the R25. How often and Approx. how much grease does it take? Should I just keep pumping till it comes out the grease fitting or does it take just a few pumps? Never noticed it before till I was inspecting the steering piston.

Do not pump the grease until you can see it. There are seals designed to keep the grease in and water out. You do not want to over pressure the seals by pumping until the grease is visible. It is my understanding that the bushings are made of teflon material. The grease needed to lubricate the bushings is minimal. Mercruiser replaced roller bearings years ago with teflon bushings in the gimbal housing for the gimbal ring. Quicksilver 2-4-C grease with teflon was the recommended grease for this application. I use this grease for the rudder post. I grease the rudder post yearly with two pumps of a standard hand grease gun. I have had no issues with this method.

I do two pumps as well.
