We ended up using three rectangular rugs from Costco for our R-31CB. We originally had the custom fitted carpet but it was hard to keep clean, hard to roll or fold back for access to the “basement” hatch, and cumbersome to roll up and carry on and off the boat for washing and drying. If the refrigerator leaked onto the carpet, the whole thing would have to be offloaded, cleaned and dried. Now we can easily move our three rugs as needed, including lining them up on the dock and spraying them off. I’m not on the boat right now but I’ll post the size and specifics when I can. They fit perfectly to give good coverage.

Also an aside: Victor, we have a vivid memory of you and your boat from the summer before last that we have told many others about but never told you… Coming back from Alaska, we rounded Cape Caution and were in Queen Charlotte Straight headed toward Port Hardy. The weather had kicked up more than expected and we were in 5’ to 6’ following seas. Not many boats were out and we were feeling a bit intimidated. Then we saw another boat about our size headed *out*, beating through the waves, spray flying, toward the ocean. As we got closer I saw that it was exactly our model Tug and my AIS identified it as Offshore Drilling. You passed on our port side. That ended up giving me a whole new confidence in our Ranger Tug. So thank you!

Good idea on the rug. Thanks. Ya, I do hate those big following seas! Vic

The size of the rugs is 20” x 39”. That seems to be a somewhat common size for mats intended for the kitchen, standing desks, etc. They have slightly rounded corners, anti-slip bottoms and lay flat. Three mats of that size fit well on the cabin floor, with the middle one at a bit of an angle to accommodate to the slight zig-zag of the passageway.

I couldn’t find our exact mat at Costco online and there is no identifying tag attached. But here is a link to a mat at Home Depot that looks very similar from the description. They have other options too, most of them less expensive.

If you think you still want the custom carpet, you could contact parts@rangertugs.com to ask about it. They still list it as an option for the R-31 (“Carpet Runner Teak and Holly—interior” @ $650).
