The shower sump does not work. We checked the fuses, cleaned the filter and still does not work. Does the pump have a float switch or sensor? Where would it be? Any way to clean the pump other than cleaning the filter. Suggestions as we are a long way from home.

Thanks.

The shower sump pump is controlled by an electronic switch identical to the switch that controls the forward and aft bilge pump's.

The switch fails if a coating of oil or soap film builds up on the electronic controls.

You could clean it as described in the bilge pump discussion each time you showered. Or, you could replace the electronic switch with a mechanical switch that you turn on when you take a shower.

I removed the entire switch, pump and box full of hair and soap scum. I replaced these with an in-line pump and a switch along side of the head flush switch. Set up works perfectly.

My shower sump is controlled by a mechanical float (2015 R25sc). You can remove the top of the shower box and then reach in and trip the float. Mine failed despite never having been used for showers. After winterizing (just to be sure), the pump started and would not turn off. Even tripping the float did nothing. Replaced the pump.

TX, Strange. I wonder why some showers are electronic and some mechanical?

I had the reverse problem, it would not turn off. This problem with the shower sump seems to crop up every so often. I just installed a manual switch in line and manually turn on the pump when water starts to accumulate. The bigger problem is if it does engage and you are not around you wind up draining your batteries. I prefer manual on/off that is spring loaded to always be off unless you push it and keep it engaged. This way you also avoid an accidental switching on with an inadvertent bump of the switch. I installed mine on the face of the sink cabinet above the door centered.

Where does your a/c condensate drain to? Mine goes to the shower sump pump.

Draining the air-conditioning into the bilge or the shower sump doesn't seem right to me.

My various boats use something like.

The device is connected into the air conditioning salt water discharge line, makes a slight vacuum and sucks the condensate out of the pan. No muss, highly reliable.

Depending on your exact year/model the A/C condensate drain is installed a few different ways. Some of the boats simply drain into the bilge, others drain into the shower drain box to be pumped overboard, and some go to a thru-hole fitting on the side of the boat. Please feel free to give us a call anytime and we'd be happy to help clarify. (253)839-5213.

My A/C condensate drains into the shower sump, then gets pumped overboard.

Be careful going to a manual
Switch. Make Sure no other drainage is feeding the sump.

I would guess the previous owner put the siphon device in our 2010 R-25. I put one in previous boats but it was already there on this Ranger.

If your a/c goes into your shower drain, eventually you will have trouble - the electronic switches used on at least some Rangers, including our R-25, just won't hold up to soap.

for less than $30, you can put a siphon type device in the a/c and be done with the problem.
