OK Tugnut friends,

It's going to be 300 degrees on the Bay this weekend and I don't want to melt.

Is it OK to run the A/C with the Genset on my R31 underway? If so, what is the top speed at which I can do so?

Thanks!

Rob

My R25 is in South Florida. We run our air-conditioning and generator all the time.

We had to replace both sea strainers one or 2010 boatsince they were too small for the generator and air conditioning. I think the newer Boats are just fine.

I would keep it under 8 knots. I managed to run the impeller on the Onan genny dry at 12 knots. The replacement exercise was not straight forward given the location. The thru hull is flat, not scooped like on the main engine. As such, the faster the water slides by, the harder it is for the impeller to suck it up.

Rob,

On my 2014 R31S, I have run the GenSet and A/C at up to 15 Knots in SW Florida with no issues.

Thanks everyone. I thought it was OK to do, but was concerned about running the impellor on the Genset dry - so I'll keep at a lower speeds. Here's to a cool pilothouse!

We ran our a/c and generator across from Bahamas at WOT for 6 hours no problem.

We often run the AC and Generator cruising in summer. Both 7 kits for short trips or 14 kits for longer days. No problems.
