Early May we are planning a trip up the East coast ICW. Starting at Savannah Georgia, Jekyll Island and heading north with stops in Tybee Island, Hilton Head, Port Royal, Beaufort, Seabrook, Charleston,Bald head Island, Wilmington NC. Would love to have any feedback on Marinas along the way or just plain "you have to stop here" places you tried.

Looking forward to what and where Ranger/Cutwater owners have gone along that ICW route. Cautionary wisdom also welcome. LOL

Thanks
Al Dettorre

We made the trip to Norfolk starting at Holden Beach. Have also been as far south s Savannah. Beaufort, SC is one of our favorites. Georgetown, SC is great. Southport, NC. Moorhead City, NC. We stayed at Waterside in Norfolk for about 4 days, and made a trip over to Virginia Beach as a day trip. Waterside is a nice, modern marina.

Jekyll Island is 125 miles south of Savannah. Are you starting at Jekyll or are you starting in Savannah and cruising south to Jekyll Island and turning back north from there?

I just spent a week on Jekyll Island. Jekyll Harbor Marina is well managed with nice people and good facilities. Transients are placed on an outside lay along dock. In strong NW winds, it can get rolly and occasionally you’ll get waked by clueless/rude boaters. There’s a really good seafood restaurant right at the marina. Jekyll Island is a great place for bikes. The marina has single speed loaner bikes, but we took our own. The beaches are nice, but there isn’t much surf due to offshore shoals.

A few years back we did a reverse trip from Urbana Virginia to Savannah. We have always said that that was one of our most memorable trips. There was so much to see and do that it took us six weeks. We relearned a lot about the civil and revolutionary wars. Definitely go up the Dismal Swamp and stop overnight at the rest stop. Not much there, but it develops into quite a party with everyone rafted together. Here are stops we made. Yours will be reverse:
Cape Charles, Hampton city docks, dismal swamp, Elizabeth City Docks, Oriental, NC, Beaufort, NC, Southport, NC, Myrtle Beach, SC Barefoot Landing Marina, Georgetown, SC, Charleston, SC, Port Royal, SC, Beaufort, SC, Paris Island Marine base tour, Savannah, GA.
There was lots to do at all these spots. Take your time and smell the roses.
