Has anyone used this on the R-21 rod holders? I have just bought an R-21 and notice that the rod holders are not "flush". If you have any ideas let me know. I don't want to mount the ugly black mounts on the boat and drill holes but have a pair of electric downriggers.

Thanks

On the 21ec the rod holder are 30 degrees, I think. Scotty makes a rigger mount for 30 degree holders. However, I don't think I would do it without some sort of backing/reinforcement plating, and I'm just not sure how you would do that with those types of rod holders. I had a scotty pro pack electric rigger and the are heavy and will put a significant strain on any mount. If it were me, I would mount a horizontal mount with a strong backing plate underneath. On the 21ec, there is room for about a 4" square plate mounted horizontally, just forward of the rod holders. Big Jon riggers might be a better choice because the have a smaller mounting footprint.
Cheers,
Gregg

I have two Scotty (manual) downrigger holder mounts on my R-21-EC. They have backing plates and are mounted on the gunnels just above the speaker. There are pictures of the mounts on my album here, so feel free to check them out.

Thanks for the advice. Just so you know my dealer suggested a railing mount for the 21 as it can be removed and requires no additional holes to be drilled. He has had success in the past so I will let you know how this works out. I"m wondering from those with experience, does the 21 go slow enough to troll for salmon or do you have to get a kicker???
