Good afternoon/evening fellow Tug Nuts. This is an update to an earlier post titled Sea Flush. Well that was a misnomer. What I actually used was a product called Barnacle Buster. First let me say I am NOT RECEIVING any endorsement, compensation or discount from this companies product. I was as skeptical as anyone about whether this stuff worked. So, here’s the honest truth about MY results. As I stated in my previous post I was sure I was not getting the proper amount of exhaust water when this engine was running. I didn’t want to take anything apart unless I really had to. Here’s what I did. I bought a gallon of the premixed solution from West Marine for $25.00. I poured the solution into my 5 gallon bucket I use to flush the raw water system and connected the hose into the raw water intake hose connection. The solution is blue in color. I started the engine and when I saw the blue solution coming out of the exhaust port I shut the engine down. I let the solution “pickle”for 3 hours in the raw water components, i.e. heat exchanger and elbow and hoses. After 3 hours I flushed the entire system with fresh water. The results were amazing! Water was being discharged from the exhaust port like a new engine. I ran the engine up to WOT (3950 rpm or so) and still there was no sight of any discharge issues. I was able to place my hand on the exhaust elbow with ease and the water temperature exiting the boat was lukewarm compared to pretreatment. WOW AND DOUBLE WOW!!
