Hi all: can anyone suggest a suitable 'Service kit' for the Johnson F4B-903 Sea (Raw) Water Pump which is attached to the Yanmar 3YM30 in my 2009/10 R21-EC? I already have a replacement impeller kit, ready for the day I need to do a change-out, but it would be good to also have a sea water pump kit handy. Something along the lines of, a spare mechanical seal, 'O' rings, bearings, etc. Is there such a 'kit' available as a whole, or is it just a case of check out the spare parts catalogue and order individual parts to make up a suitable kit? Would appreciate some thoughts from those seasoned Tug Nuts, regarding which components would be handy to have on standby . Kind regards, Stevan

Rebuilding the entire pump is not a quick job that lends itself to being done on the water and/or in a rush. So if you're a belt and suspenders kind of guy, what makes most sense IMO for spares is to carry an impeller kit (which is what's needed 95 percent of the time) and a complete spare pump (to cover the other 5 percent). Then if you use the spare pump you can order bearings etc. and rebuild it after the fact to replace it in your spares inventory.

I agree with Dan, having a backup impeller is the most important. I personally have never had to replace an entire water pump, just the impeller. If you have that on board you're in good shape!

Thanks Kenny & Dan: I agree - good advice. I will do just that. Kind regards and thanks
