Lake George NY is a clear water Lake 32 miles long. All overboard discharges MUST be sealed to prevent discharge of gray and black water. I will be using my tug there during the summer months.

I just purchased a 2008 R 21 EC and will need to seal these: The recommended method is plugging the holes with a rubber plug and thencaulk around it.

So I need the ID of these opening, my boat is still down south and will be up north by Spring but want to be prepared.

If you have a better method would be very interested in that.

Thanks
Jim

Hello Jim,

Unfortunately I am not aware of these parts being in stock at our shop to measure. I would recommend phoning our parts manager Richard Becker to see if he has any laying around we could measure in the meantime.

Thanks Jim,

When I close my pool for the winter I have rubber stoppers with stainless wing nuts that when tightened expand the diameter of the stopper to make a watertight seal. No caulk to clean up. Might want to try a swimming pool supplier or google "swimming pool rubber stoppers".

Those plugs are Plumbers test plugs, Home Depot and Lowes will have them. Much cheaper than a Pool Store.

I also have some plumbers test plugs for other purposes, however the metal portions are not stainless steel and will rust.

When you’ll disconnect the sink, can’t you just seal the hose from the inside instead of the thru hull fitting?

Where will you put the new tank to receive the gray water? Above the fresh water tank? Or use the black water tank?

Plan to just use a Sheetrock pale, will be very minimal use. Then empty it ashore.

My Tug was on Lake George for 7 years and was never inspected. However In anticipation, I re-plumbed the sinks and shower to discharge into a 6 gallon tank in the starboard locker....did not plug the holes. For the blackwater, I put a padlock on the valve that changes from tank to macerator. The management at my yacht club said that if inspected, they would require that the wiring to the macerator be disconnected. I have sold my tug and now have a 25' Parker pilot house boat with a toilet, blackwater tank and macerator/ discharge. When I launched the boat last fall, the inspectors apparently didn't notice the macerator and/ or the discharge opening in the hull and approved my boat as is.

To be safe, you should call the Lake George Park Commission and ask for direction. Enjoy Lake George aka the Queen of America's Lakes.

I talked to LGPC enforcement LT and he is the one that said plug and caulk. Like the padlock solution. Just want to have plug solution ready.
I have enjoyed Lake George for 71 years and our family house built in 1840 has been owned by our family since 1896, just an old house, not a mega mansion but we love it.
Did you find a good Yamar mechanic on the Lake?

As you probably know, Michaels Marine Service is located across the road from Harris Bay Yacht Club and does service for most of the Club members/ renters. Mike and his staff are capable mechanics, however I found then to be difficult at times and slow to respond to my service needs.....a common problem expressed by many fellow boaters. I did not find any other diesel mechanics on the Lake. I am relieved to now have a Yamaha 300 HP outboard....lots of Yamaha factory certified shops between Albany and Lake George. The nearest Yanmar shops are either Lake Champlain or the Hudson River just south of Albany.
