Seattle is famous for rain all year round, right ? The TV series The Killing is a very good example as just about every scene shows it to be raining... 😉

So for you weather buffs what do you think is the average annual rainfall in inches for the Seattle area is ? Hint... it's less than what Miami gets per year -- 135 days of precipitation. November rains are the worst for Seattle at around 5 inches.

I've always considered the amount of rain in Seattle to be close to what I was used to growing up in southern England... and I'm close to being right about that as Seattle gets just a little more than London and it generally falls slowly in both places (at least it did when I lived in London in the 1960s).

I don't know about Miami. I lived in Jacksonville, Fla. We had a lot of rain there also but it was different than the rain we had on Whidbey Island. In Jacksonville, you could almost set your watch by the rain. I would rain many days about the same time. It would pour down real hard for about an hour and then quit as suddenly as it started. After the rain it would be cooler and everything would smell fresh and clean. With the sandy soil, everything would dry up fairly quickly. The rain in Florida was almost pleasant. I don't remember it being that way on Whidbey.

As a recent transplant to Seattle from San Francisco (and growing up in Denmark) I can tell you its not the amount of rain in Seattle people by and large complain about, its the constant overcast and no sun during 6 month of the year, I understand that the term "rain" is what's most often used to describe Seattle, but in terms as rainfall Olympia which is some 45 miles south gets almost twice the rain as Seattle.
