Seeking Guidance on Radar Installation for 2020 C 24-C

Hello community,

I am the owner of a second-hand 2020 C 24-C boat and am eager to enhance its capabilities by adding an aftermarket radar system. Observing similar models equipped with factory-installed radar, it appears that the radar is mounted on the cabin roof between the factory slide-in connector for the cockpit shade and the factory roof rails.

I'm reaching out to gather insights from those familiar with Fluid Motion's radar installations. Specifically:

1: What radar mount did Fluid Motion utilize for attaching the radar to the boat?

2: Was there any additional support or modification made to the fiberglass for the purpose of attachment and/or stability?

I'm appreciative to learn from the community's experiences and expertise. Any input or advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there CJ,

We use our proprietary radar mast for the 24 but you can essentially use any mount that will fit the area where the radar is normally mounted. You can see the pad on top of the aft end of the hardtop. We do not add any additional structural elements when a radar is mounted, so if you were to use the stock mast (for example) there would be nothing additional necessary. So it all depends on the mount you intend to use. A mount such as this one:

could potentially fit the bill. You would need to make sure the mount fits on the base, depending on which one you choose. The only other challenge you would face is running the cable. You can run it to the starboard side and then down the aft pillar (where the starboard cabin speaker mounts). You have a small access hole that is capped below the speaker. It would be a little of a challenge, but the cable can be fished through with a proper rod hook once you drill the hole on the cabin top. The last thing is to make sure you install a proper fitting and seal it properly where the cable will run into the cabin top. Hope this helps get you started.

It’s reassuring to know that we have flexibility in choosing a mount that fits the designated area. I’ll definitely explore the options, including the Seaview (and Scanstrut) Modular Radar Mounts you’ve mentioned as well as look into their tapered masts. The link you provided looks promising, and I’ll make sure to verify compatibility with the base.

In the event that I'm unable to find a suitable match, I was wondering if it's possible to purchase one of the proprietary radar mounts directly from Fluid Motion. Alternatively, if direct purchase is not an option, could you provide access to the measurements or specifications of the mount? This information would be immensely helpful in my search for a compatible solution.

Regarding the cable installation challenge, your guidance on running it to the starboard side and down the aft pillar is invaluable. I’ll keep that in mind as I plan the setup. And of course, sealing it properly is crucial to ensure everything works seamlessly.
