Setting a date on Garmin

I was checking the tide yesterday and looked on the INFO, TIDES tabs on the menu. It said we were just about at high tide but as I pulled into the dock I realized that was totally wrong. I went back to check it again and the date was March, something, 1999. I've never had this happen before (as far as I know).

Does anyone have any hints or tips for me? Garmin 5212.

What am I doing wrong?

Oddly enough, I experienced the exact problem on my Garmin chartplotters (5212) today. I tried all of the published remedies but nothing worked. I plan to contact Garmin on Monday.... :-(

I'll sure be interested in what you find out.
I tried the method for the 5xxx series on thehulltruth.com posting. It didn't work.

To be more precise, my 5212 menu didn't match the menu as described.
=> Home => Configure => Communications: no serial GPS or Mode button anywhere.

Did you try forcing an auto locate? It should update the almanac and might correct the date./time

What is "auto locate"? It's new to me?
Nothing in my manual.
 
The back pages of the manual has a procedure to save settings to an sd card. Then perform the reset procedure. This will cause it to perform an auto locate process and download a fresh almanac.

Follow up:

I spoke with Garmin Support this morning. The reply I got was that this is an issue with the GPS antenna which picks up the tide/current data, as well as location. Garmin engineers are working on updated software, but the release date is still unknown. They stayed that there are no workarounds for this current problem. .

Time to get out the iPad!
 
Sorry, Sue for so many questions.
Did you get a sense that this has always been a problem and that I only just now noticed it?
Or is it intermittent?

Hi Rich, per Garmin Support, this particular problem first showed up last Friday. However, based upon my google searches, it appears that this isn’t the first time....
 
Ya, I saw that too.
Tides here on the Chesapeake Bay aren't that big a deal, but we have a lot of shallow water.
But it's not like I'm driving a sailboat anymore. (And the bottom is all mud.)

I downloaded a device software update yesterday. Probably install it tomorrow.
MAybe something will get sorted out then.
Stay tuned.
 
I installed my software update 7.70 --> 7.80 yesterday.
Easy Peezy.
But no help regarding the system date.
